Summer, that is. Not that you could tell it’s gone when we’ve been having 100 degree days. 101 F yesterday when we went through town. Ugh. And so humid you don’t have to drink water, just go outside and absorb it by osmosis. Walking outside during the day is like wrapping yourself up in a big, heavy blanket dipped in hot water. Miserable doesn’t half cover it.
But summer is over. At least for the kids. School started up today. Pick up traffic was a real mess as the school changed parent pick-up schedule and everyone would up being there at the same time, all jockying pick up their children and with no place for anyone to get in or out. And did I mention it was hot outside? Even with the air going full blast you could still feel the heat coming through the windows.
So, summer’s done. All the late nights and unplanned drives and sleeping in and making ice cream sundaes and game playing has to be restrained and scheduled. Now, homework and studying and bedtimes take precedence. Summer’s gone. Time for the kids to get serious and grow up a little.
At least until next summer, that is.
